Bali Meets California

What started out as a pool remodel project turned into a pool-removal project, once un-repairable cracks were found in the existing pool. Constraints became opportunities and a pond with waterfall was born. What was once a concrete backyard with pool became a backyard reminiscent of the wife's homeland Bali, with birds, insects, and fish. The garden is lush but still maintains a water conserving conscience. The owners grow vegetables, fruit, herbs, and water infiltrates through much of the site's gravel paths into the groundwater. The pond ecosystem is self-regulating with the use of oxygenating plants, snails, and fish.
